Veneers Q & A

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are an answer to unsightly, discolored, or misshapen and misaligned teeth.  While veneers can be made of porcelain or resin composite material, our doctors choose to use porcelain material to cover imperfections in your teeth.

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

  • Long-lasting: Porcelain veneers can last for 15 years with proper brushing and flossing.
  • Custom-fit: The dental lab custom-manufactures the veneers to fit your teeth perfectly.
  • Natural blend: You can’t tell where your original tooth ends and the veneer begins.
  • Strength: Porcelain veneers are very durable; you can still eat the foods you love without worrying about chipping a tooth.
  • Resistant to stains: Unlike your original teeth, veneers are impervious to stains, so you can continue to enjoy your coffee, tea, and red wine.
  • Cosmetic transformation: Teeth that are worn, stained, misshapen, cracked, or out of alignment now are white, even, smooth, and perfectly aligned.

What happens during the veneer procedure?

At your first visit, we consult with you to determine what changes you would like to see in your smile. We take X-rays, examine your teeth, and may take impressions to determine if there is enough of the original teeth left for veneers to be a good answer for you.

At the second visit, our doctors numb your mouth so that the procedure is pain-free. We take a thin layer of enamel from the teeth you want to improve. Our team makes a model of the teeth and sends it to a lab which manufactures the veneers. We provide a temporary veneer until the next visit.

At the last visit, after ensuring the color match and fit are correct, our doctors cement the veneers into place on top of the affected teeth.  We trim the veneer and use a special light on the veneer which sets the adhesive very quickly.

After we remove any excess adhesive, you’re able to look in the mirror and see the transformation. Your teeth will have changed from dull and dingy to bright and sparkling, and you’ll walk out of the office with a brand new smile.
